Effluvia

I ain't got dick to link to today.

But Salon always has good articles.

And Feed Magazine is often erudite.

And Burning Man is certainly an interesting event.

And Kylie Minogue is very sexy.

Not as sexy as Amber, though.

Record breaking heat in New Orleans today. Check your weather.

Siobhanorama!

Siobhan is back in her element. And worried about her hair, of course.

Give Blood

When I wrote last it was Monday. Now it's Wednesday. That's the primary difference between this entry and the last one.

Sonya made porkchops for dinner last night. She also fried some squash, put some scalloped potatoes in the oven and sliced up one of the big red tomatoes we got at the market Saturday. It was especially satisfying. The tomatoes tasted like summer. I may have a tomato sandwich for dinner tonight. Just tomatoes, mayonnaise and a little salt. And maybe some mustard. I'm very excited about this.

That shit about the tomatoes is almost some of that Spanish guys poetry, isn't it?

I ate the tomatoes
from the market
they taste like summer
maybe I will have more tomatoes
tonight

I gave blood today, and that wasn't so bad. It's been well over a year since I gave last - before the nipple-piercing, anyway. You can't give blood for twelve months after a "nonstandard piercing." The people were nice; I guess you have to be, since you're working with folks who have volunteered to have needles stuck in them. They deserve a little niceness.

The only odd moment was when the nurse asking me the standard questions thought I'd said "yes" to one of the ones that you really need to answer "no" to. It was either "Have you had sex with anyone who has had sex for money since 1977?" or "Have you taken any intravenous drugs not prescribed by a doctor?"

The finger stick, which I dislike more than the actual blood-drawing itself, was not too awful today. The nurse went more for the side of my finger than straight on; it barely hurt.

Having the big needle in my arm doesn't hurt so much as it's uncomfortable. I twitch and squirm the entire time I give blood because I want the piece of metal out of my arm. When the nurse pulled it out I actually went "eeeewwww!" 'cause it feels so wrong sliding out of my flesh.

I could never get on the heroin.

I wrote a bit last night, the fisrt non-this journal writing I've done in a long time. It was nice - I sat at the little marble bistro table (where I wrote my last novel, I might add) and fired up the iBook and just wrote for a couple of hours.

It's none to cheery, this thing I'm writing, but I think it has great comic potential, maybe. It also has the potential of hitting the fuckin' wall and going nowhere, but I need to try.

It is on the iBook, so for the moment there's no easy way to let you nice people see it. I think I'm going to CompUSA this weekend to get a floppy drive for it, though, so maybe later.
