Weekend Update

So here's your Sunday morning update.

After a frantic run to the bank yesterday morning, Sonya made the most gargantuan, satisfying breakfast: cheddar cheese omelets, little bitty pancakes, fried potatoes. It was deeply, meaningfully satisfying. It was only marred by a slightly sore throat of mine.

The rest of the day was an intense exercise in sloth. We lazed about. Sonya diddled with the computer. I read. We played Yahtzee and You Don't Know Jack. I ran upstairs to check on the cat for the vacationing Jen and James. Overall, we slept late and stayed up late.

Were we bored? You bet we were.

"You know," Sonya said thoughtfully at one point, "you never want to go out and do more than when you're broke."

"You ready to go?" I asked.

"I'm ready to go boogie," Sonya said with conviction.

I understood her situation, though there wasn't much I could do about it. We're broke until further paychecks arrive. The little bit I got out of the bank yesterday morning is all the easily available money we have in the world. So we stayed home on a beautiful Saturday.

How 'bout the University of Memphis, huh? Yes, they lost to Tennessee yesterday, but they lost 17-16, at the last minute. They were, like, 31-point underdogs. Tennessee is the defending national champion. And Memphis nearly beat them again.

Memphis is now 1-3. In three losses they've been beaten by a combined total of seven points. Those losses came against Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Tennessee - none of those teams are lightweights. Their schedule really eases up for the rest of the season; Tulane is their only substantial opponent left.

Things could be looking up for the Tigers. I certainly hope so - they deserve it. And if poor old Coach Rip doesn't have a winning record this season he may be looking for a new job next year.

In this morning's news...

It's official. I have a fucking goddamned cold. The sore throat, as always, was an accurate harbinger. This morning my nose is running like a damned water fountain. Hoorah.

The Saints aren't playing this weekend, so I'm not too terribly excited about football today. Atlanta-St. Louis? Hope they kill each other.

I think I'll go to West Memphis here in a little while and see the family. They need visitin'.

Out tonight again. Meeting Shawn and David at David's apartment, and then we're off to the Castle. Again. We'll see if my flyers did any good, I suppose.
