Wretchedly Ill

Actually, I haven't been wretchedly ill, but Sonya has. She had a horribly clogged nose that kept her home from work Thursday and Friday. It's moved into her chest this weekend and she's spent the last few days coughing up great ghastly gobbets of phlegm. I've dutifully taken care of her, and today she seems to be on the upswing.

How's the weather where you are? In Memphis March can be horribly fickle, weather-wise. The first week of the month had both warm AND cold days. The past week has been unremittingly cold and dreary, a visitation of the winter weather we were spared most of the actual winter. There was honest-to-god motherfucking snow today, which just makes me sick. My regular readers will know that I have little use for cold weather and snow.

So anyway, this dreary weather has me a little down. Winter weather really serves no purpose after New Year's, does it? It's just cold and miserable and stretching off towards an impossibly distant spring. The thought of warmth and sun in a few days is keeping me going.

Amusingly, St. Patrick's Day itself it's supposed to be sunny and warm. I hope it stays that way from now on.

I'm looking forward to St. Patrick's, actually. This weekend the weather and Sonya's illness has conspired to keep us indoors. There's nothing I'd like more than to sit at one of the picnic tables in the Pinch Wednesday night and have a nice big cup of green beer. We'll see, I suppose.

Fitness-wise, I've been a slug. I haven't been running in a few weeks and the tae-bo tapes sit, unwatched on the bookshelf. This weekend I've felt terribly lethargic. I need to fix that this week, hopefully.

I'm getting more and more jazzed about the Chicago trip in April. Here's where I need the help of my legion of readers. If you live in Chicago, used to live in Chicago or have just been to Chicago (Siobhan, this means you) I'd like your input on the happening clambakes and after-hours hot spots. Anything you can tell me would certainly help. Send your insights and observations to saints@magibox.net and I would be much obliged.
