Buff

The wife and I got some books this weekend. Sonya got Poppy Z's Drawing Blood and Love In Vein Part Deux, a collection of vampire erotica edited by the ubiquitous Ms. Brite. Excellent stuff, I know. I got Galilee, Clive Barker's latest. More of a historical fantasy-type thing; it's definitely a continuation of where his work has been going where he creates a huge, sweeping world that lies parallel to our own. There aren't as many people skinned alive in his later work, either.

We went to Cat's, too. Got the new Orgy, Marilyn Manson and Hole. Sonya likes the Orgy. Personally, I think the cover of Blue Monday is really cool and the rest sounds pretty generic. The Manson is cool (a very Dramatic Rock Opera) and the Hole is pure power-pop. Went back to Cat's last night and got the Tori Amos Jackie's Strengh remix single. This mix is gonna be such a huge hit in the gay clubs. It's about one fabulous woman who wore great hats (Jackie O.) sung by another fabulous woman with great clothes (Tori). It makes me want to put my hands over my head and dance.

Before we left for Mardi Gras I took my truck to my mom's house so it would be off the street and unticketed while we were out of town. We got back last Wednesday night and I kind of planned to go get it last weekend. We actually did make it to my mom's last weekend, but we had some other running around to do afterwards so I left it there then, too.

I have yet to make it back over there. Therefore, I've been walking back and forth to work every day since. This is not so bad, except I keep being fifteen minutes late for work.

Now you're probably asking yourself, "if he lives so close to work why does he drive at all?" That's a damn fine question. Here's how it works:

I don't actually have a parking spot at home. I park my truck on the street. This works out well, since metered parking is free from six at night 'til eight in the morning. If necessary, I can feed the meter some change before I go to work and after I get home. However, if I leave my truck on the street all day with no one to feed the meter I would come home to a sheaf of tickets wedged under my windshield wipers.

So I drive my car to work, where I park in a lot right across the street from my office. But - and this is important - I can't leave my car in this parking lot overnight.

You see how it is? Circumstances force me to drive to work.

Not that I'm complaining. It's like a two-minute commute, which lets me leave my house at 8:30 a.m. (when I'm supposed to be at work) and still be less than five minutes late.

The only downside to all this is that now, in my truckless state, I'm still leaving the house at 8:30. I just don't get to work 'til 8:45.

And I don't care.

I've told everyone and their brother that I'm going to run in a 5K in March. This was foolish of me, as I haven't run in several weeks and wasn't very good at it then.

Today has turned warm and beautiful, though, the first such day in Memphis in a few weeks. I think I'll take a quick run this evening and see just how much my skills have deteriorated. Hopefully there will be something late in March that I can sign up for.

Speaking of lookin' all buff, I ordered the tae bo videotapes from the TV Sunday. I did this with Sonya's complete cooperation. Hell, she wrote the number down for me. But you know, those people in that infomercial are really, really buff. And Billy whatshisname looks pretty sharp, too.

I'm gonna be cool, all tae bo-ified, able to run for freakin' miles, and I'll have a pierced nipple, too!

If I get really buff one of those tribal tattoos would look good, too.
