Yesterday Sonya and I were walking back to work after lunch. We strolled past one of the hidey-holes where the homeless people pee and were assualted by the sharp stench of human urine.

"You know," Sonya said, "we know where the homeless people pee, 'cause we see it all the time. But where do they go to shit?"

I thought about it for a second. "I don't know," I said finally, "I'm sure they've got secret places scattered all around Downtown."

So now when I'm walking around (or just walking the dog) I'm on a constant lookout for human feces. I don't think I've seen any yet, but there were several pieces of suspicious ordure in the grass in front of city hall this morning.

There could just be big dogs, though.

Also yesterday, I had to ask this guy at work some questions about our internet access. Frighteningly, I actually had a conversation that used the words "I.P. address" and "router."

I am such a geek.

I beat Tomb Raider II! Finally! I consulted the walkthrough, sure, and I cheated indiscriminately. But I figured it out and now it's done with. Hoorah.

So now I'm just screwing with it, trying to get a better final time. I did pay fifty bucks for it, after all. I need to play it a few more times, just to get my money's worth.

I had a reader (bless her little heart) who told me she reads this thing to get a look at Memphis from someone her age. I like that - get me, I'm an internet resource!

Well, honey, I love my town. Memphis is home to me, no matter where I may live. As a kid we'd come across the bridge to go shopping or whatnot and I always got a thrill seeing the skyline pop up across the delta.

Good things about Memphis:

Really, I could rattle on for hours. I've been all over this country of ours and I can honestly say there is no place like Memphis.

For those of you who are keeping up with such things Sonya is on the patch. Again.

The first time around she cut down seriously. She's smoked since then, but not nearly so much. Now she's trying to do it all the way, but I think she may compromise at just doing it occasionally. I got a celebratory weekend pack of smokes this evening, so we'll chip at that over the next few days.

Me, I don't care one way or the other. Running and smoking don't match very well, but two or three a day won't kill me.

Not yet, anyway.

We had a birthday party for James Wednesday night. Cake and Chinese food (a tradition since his birthday last year) and good fellowship. He got books, an electric grill and a bubble play set. He seemed awful happy with his birthday. I was glad to be a part of it.
