Mule

From the Memphis Commercial Appeal Bygone Days section, 06 April 2000:

April 6, 1875

"Captain E. Marshall, the well-known stock dealer and livery stable owner at 163 Main, opposite the Overton Court Building, has returned from St. Louis with a fine herd of mules."

And then everyone went down to Captain Marshall's livery stable for a merry afternoon of old-fashioned mule fucking.

From The Stranger, Seattle's alternative weekly, 06 April 2000:

Microsoft Violates the Sherman Antitrust Act to Monopolize the Web-Browser Market

DUH.

Also from The Stranger, talking about Kathleen Turner's nude scene in the stage version of The Graduate being previewed in London:

"Inspired by The Graduate's headline-grabbing nudity, other London theaters are jumping on the racy bandwagon, including the National Theatre, whose production of The Cherry Orchard suffered from half-full houses until grande dame Vanessa Redgrave began closing Act One by shooting Ping-Pong balls out of her vagina."

Last night Sonya and I went to Beale Street for the first time in ages. We went to Dick's Last Resort, a single-entendre chain restaurant where the wacky waitstaff is "rude" to the customers. Hilarious!

Actually, last night was their Margaritaville night, complete with cheeseburgers, beer and margaritas. And Buffett karaoke, a solid crowd pleaser. We sat on the patio and listened to classic rock and ate burgers. Our waitress helped herself to our fries and occasionally said "shit." It was fun.

I haven't had a drink since we came back from London (but my last drink there was a half-pint of Stella Artois at the airport - them Englishmen love their beer) so the two beers I had last night (served in a glass shaped like a man with his pants hanging off his ass - funny!) had me reeling and giggling back down Beale Street around ten o'clock. Sonya, in honor of the night's theme, had two fruity rum drinks and was equally spin-headed. We went in a souvenir shop and got a grab bag of crap (backscratcher, shot glass, Elvis magnet - normal stuff) for Siobhan, whom we are meeting tomorrow in NEW YORK CITY!

We will also see Eddie Izzard perform tomorrow night. It should be a whirlwind - but entertaining - trip to the east coast. We'll be back Sunday night.

And today a coworker of mine and I became the Ultimate Slacking Champions. We took a two-hour lunch and went to the movies. We saw Final Destination, which was stupid but fun (teenagers die in interesting ways) and a thrillingly naughty way to waste the company's time.

I'll tell you about New York when I get back.
